What's it all about?
If you wondered about reenactment and living history, that's pretty much it; we examine each detail of daily fourteenth century life, wether it be cooking, sewing clothes or going to mass, to be able to recreate a small part of history as closely as possible. We seek to bring certain areas to life in an effort to understand more of the whole picture. These areas include material culture, 14th century customs and practices and camp life, to mention a few.
Living history is an attempt to recreate an event or era. Of course we can not recreate each and every aspect of our chosen period, and some aspects we don't even want to recreate. We have enough starvation, sickness and suffering as it is today, and therefore we like to focus on other bits of the middle ages, like crafting, cooking, music, the use of arms and similar things. We aways try to stick to the latest research (we even do a lot of research ourselves) and to use materials and techniques used in the actual period in everything we create.
Some make a distinction between living history and reenactment, where living history is to recreate everyday life of a period, and reenactment is to recreate a specific occasion, often a famous battle. We'd like to say that we do a bit of both - as we are aiming to recreate the life of a group of gunners, battles is a part of what we do. Most of the time, however, we do not participate in battles, but display camp life and crafts.
