Do anyone have any information on findings on fabric with silk/wool ( in any combination).

As far as I know this combination of silk and wool was called "Burrat" (or similarly) and was mainly produced in the Oriental part of the world in 14th century.

But regrettably I do not remember where I got this information from  ... but it was a serious source at least.

From the account of the household of Jan van Blois 1361-1362:

... een Ghentsch groen striip laken al mit ziden ghestriipt ...

"a green striped woolen cloth of Gent, striped with silk"

This, together with a long pink woolen cloth of Brussels, was used to make livery clothing out of for Jan's 12 knights in this year.

Thank you all!
My problem is that I can't find any fabric with mixed fibres in it.Warp or weft, or mixed in the tread. I can only find wool cloth in combination with silk cloth. It's obvious that during the time people used wool and silk fabrics. But I'm really interested in mixing the two fibres. (I believe that I've got an even bigger problem finding out anything about linen/ silk mixes... )
Silk and wool have so different quality's, yet still they both are from animals. It would be nice to get the best out of two worlds...

The household accounts of the french kind in paris mentions several occurances of silk/wool cloth for dresses. We have tried that for some of Myriams dresses (not mixed in the fibre, warp/weft mix), it results in very fluid, strong, soft and shining cloth. Works very well for dresses.

the ones from london also have silk stripes, so no silk/wool mix in the yarns.
i have never seen examples of that.

@jens: where did you find the silk/wool mixed fabric?
