I think most buttons depicted in white or yellow is supposed to be in metal in pictures.

There are lots of originals in the museum of london; complete description can be found in this book: http://www.diu-minnezit.de/buecher.php? ... id=3&lid=0

Of course in lots of museums there are many more; though pewter buttons do not seem to have been that widespread on the continent.
And of course there are lots more which are made from more precious metals like gold, with gems etc.

Mordlysten krigsman, rå och hård i hjertat,
Och med ett samvete som helvet rymligt,
Skall rasa fritt med blodbestänkta händer
Och meja edra friska jungfrur af
Och edra fagra spenabarn som gräs

I know a guy her from Dk that makes the buttons from Boringholm. They are really great and if any of you would like to buy some I´m sure that he would be willing to sell.
