Saddle for sumpter horse

Postby Peter » 19 Oct 2008, 11:15

Hey hey.

I would like to make a saddle for a sumpter horse, and I'm looking for sources. Actually, I'm looking for sources of horses carrying other stuff than people. Baskets, chests, barrels etc.

I have a couple here:

Image
OK - it's a donkey.

Image
OK - it's a camel. But you know what I mean!

Image
That might just be a horse.

All and everything welcome!
Mordlysten krigsman, rå och hård i hjertat,
Och med ett samvete som helvet rymligt,
Skall rasa fritt med blodbestänkta händer
Och meja edra friska jungfrur af
Och edra fagra spenabarn som gräs

Hi Peter,

I found one sumpter horse in the Tacuinum Sanitatis of Vienna, Austria (ca. 1390).

Hope this helps.

Is it for your own horse by the way?
I did not know that you have any.

Thanks Astrid

Maybe the reason you couldn't post the pic is because it is too large. When I post pics on forums, I usually upload the pic on flickr/photobucket, and then link to it from the forum.

The saddle is for one of Morgan's horses. We have been planning such a saddle for at least a year ;)

I am looking at these pictures and it is fairly clear from these that for carrying stuff duringn work (gathering wood etc) you use fairly rudementary wood fork devices. What otehr evidence have we found Peter?
